Course Ventricular Arrhythmias and Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) 2h 45min Subspecialty

After completing this chapter, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of genetic testing in clinical electrophysiology and practical cardiology.
  • Learn the basis of interpretation of genetic testing and its potential results with regard to the validity of reported genes and potential gene variants.
  • Learn what is a genetic variant of uncertain clinical significance (VUS, ACMG class 3 variant) and what are secondary findings in actionable cardiovascular genes, which are an upcoming issue in clinical practice.
  • Learn which experimental methods are used to address the functional effects of identified genetic variants and to ascertain a causal relationship between gen variant and disease phenotype.
  • Learn clinical characteristics and genetic basis of the most common primary electrical diseases and inherited cardiomyopathies.
  • Learn when genetic testing is indicated and which genetic test has to be applied in a specific patient according to the phenotype,
  • Recognize the importance of patient counseling and multidisciplinary teams in cardiogenetics.
