At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Recognise phenotypes suggestive of HCM in the community
  • Evaluate symptoms and family history of a patient with possible HCM
  • Analyze critically the ECG, recognizing “red flags”
  • Address challenges and disparities in HCM
  • Understand the possible effect of sex, ethnicity, age, athletic activity on prognosis
  • Appraise current and future referral pathways
  • Appraise the utility of different imaging modalities
  • Differentiate LVH phenotypes (sarcomeric, Amyloid, Fabry disease, other)
  • Understand established and novel therapies

Pre-requisites for this course are:

Knowledge:

  • Basic understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of principles of transthoracic echocardiography and cardiovascular magnetic resonance
  • Basic understanding of human genetics applied to cardiomyopathies.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in 12-lead ECG interpretation.
  • Proficiency in cardiac imaging

Experience:

  • Clinical experience in general cardiology
  • Prior exposure to managing patients with cardiomyopathies
