The EAPC Educational Course on Kidney Disease and Hypertension in Cardiovascular Prevention will allow participants to:

  • Familiarize with pathophysiological interactions of the heart and kidney.
  • Become acquainted with strategies to appropriately screen and assess kidney disease.
  • Master guideline-recommended assessment of cardiovascular risk in kidney disease.
  • Understand different phenotypes of patients with kidney disease requiring cardiovascular protection.
  • Review cardiovascular treatment targets in kidney disease patients.
  • Inform about hypertension targets in chronic kidney disease.
  • Review data of cardiovascular drug categories in the setting of kidney disease.
  • Practice indications and clinical applications of novel drugs for cardiovascular and renal protection.


Pre-requisites for this course are:

Knowledge:

  • Foundational understanding of cardiovascular physiology and renal function.
  • Basic knowledge of cardiovascular risk factors and chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages.
  • Clinical training in cardiology, nephrology, internal medicine, clinical pharmacology, or endocrinology is helpful.

 Skills:

  • Basic understanding of pharmacology related to cardiovascular and renal drugs.
  • Use of risk prediction models for cardiovascular prevention.
  • Basic knowledge of guideline-based treatment targets for cardiovascular risk factors.

Experience:

  • Clinical experience in cardiology, general medicine and cardiovascular disease prevention.
  • Experience managing hypertension, diabetes, or kidney disease in a clinical setting.
  • Exposure to cardiac and renal imaging is beneficial.
